Awareness raising for new international standards

On 12-14 June, the Swedish National Audit Office and the National Audit Office of Estonia hosted an international seminar in Tallinn. The seminar covered the new international auditing standards (ISSAI) developed within the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
The Swedish National Audit Office has led the development of the standards for financial audit, which build on the international standards (ISA) developed by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). 36 delegates from 14 countries participated in the seminar. The participants represented audit offices in countries from Eastern Europe. Some of these audit offices are engaged in an institutional development cooperation with the Swedish National Audit Office. The seminar covered the need for internationally accepted standards and an exchange of experiences between the participants concerning the implementation of the new standards. There was a great interest among the participants and it is clear that many audit offices face significant challenges when implementing the new ISSAIs.
