Incorrect payments in social insurance – Control activities of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (RiR 2016:11)

Every year the Swedish Social Insurance Agency pays out more than SEK 200 billion in various benefits. Measurements have shown that the Agency has incorrectly paid out about SEK 16 billion per year. The Swedish NAO’s audit shows that in the period between 2012 and 2015 the Government and the Social Insurance Agency gave lower priority to preventing incorrect payments, despite studies showing extensive errors and that the level of recovery was low.
