Conditions for secure power transmission – Governance of Svenska Kraftnät in implementing the energy transition

There is a risk of longer and more frequent electricity blackouts in future, as renewable and weather-dependent electricity is difficult to plan. The Government is unclear on the long-term responsibility for securing electricity needs. Unclear financing arrangements and remit for the Swedish Transmission Operator, Svenska Kraftnät, also risk leading to electricity grids being extended more than necessary, thus making it more expensive for all electricity grid customers.
