Since 2015, the Swedish National Audit Office (Swedish NAO) has supplemented its bilateral cooperation with Kenya´s, Tanzania´s and Uganda´s respective Office of Auditor General (OAG) with regional activities directed to the OAGs in question, as well as to the OAG of Rwanda.
The OAGs concerned expressed interest to continue the cooperation within the framework of the Swedish NAO´s initiative Regional East-African Cooperation 2021-2024, the aim of which is to create arenas for exchange of knowledge and experiences in the fields of auditing, organizational development and communication with stakeholders. The goal is to create additional prerequisites for the participating OAGs to establish institutional, organizational and professional capacity and ability to carry out and communicate auditing in compliance with international principles and standards.
The Regional East-African Cooperation is in line with Sweden´s development cooperation and humanitarian aid to Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The cooperation is also expected to contribute to the “Agenda 2063” of the African Union, which sets good governance, establishment of efficient, democratic and transparent public institutions, the rule of law, fight against corruption etc. as long-term objectives for its Member States.
