The Swedish National Audit Office elected onto the Governing Board of EUROSAI
In connection with the congress that is held every three years, the Swedish National Audit Office was elected onto the Governing Board of EUROSAI last week. The tenure is six years and, together with Poland, we will have a special responsibility for a working area concerned with institutional capacity building.
Cooperation and international engagement have always been an important part of our operations. This is based on the fundamental idea that we must work together to enable empowering the role of Supreme Audit Institutions, developing our profession and thus reinforcing public-sector audit in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
“We are delighted with the confidence that the other countries have placed in us, and we look forward to the opportunity both to work with certain concrete areas of responsibility, and to pursue more strategic issues from a European perspective. This gives us better opportunities to influence EUROSAI’s strategy, organisation and priorities and also to promote effective cooperation in line with our own objective,” comments Auditor General Helena Lindberg.
This year’s congress was held online under the Presidency of Israel. On the theme “Sharing minds = greater SAIs”, discussions included future audit with 2030 as the vision, a new strategic plan for 2024–2030 was established and Sweden and Italy were elected onto the Governing Board.
“A place on the EUROSAI Governing Board gives us advantages in the form of early knowledge in general and specific audit-related issues and, through professional exchange of experience, helps us to learn from other SAIs, thus ultimately strengthening our own capacity in various areas,” explains Helena Lindberg.
EUROSAI
EUROSAI is a regional organisation within INTOSAI, consisting of 51 European Supreme Audit Institutions, including the European Court of Auditors. The Governing Board consists of Israel (Presidency 2024–2027), Slovakia, Spain (host of the Secretariat), the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Italy and Sweden.
EUROSAI works primarily in two strategic objective areas. One aims to support effective, innovative and relevant audit through professional cooperation. The other objective area aims to help Supreme Audit Institutions to harness new opportunities and address challenges by supporting their institutional development. The Swedish National Audit Office is leading this work together with the Polish SAI.
The Swedish National Audit Office has a long history of engagement in EUROSAI. We were one of the Governing Board members upon inception in 1990, held the Presidency during 1993–96 and have, over the years, contributed in various ways to the organisation’s work on supporting and developing the European Supreme Audit Institutions, most recently in the project focusing on institutional capacity building.
