Our organisation
The Swedish National Audit Office is an authority under the Riksdag. Our responsibility is to provide the Riksdag with knowledge of how government agencies are managed and how well political reforms work. The Swedish National Audit Office’s auditing remit forms part of parliamentary control and is guaranteed by the Constitution. The Auditor General is the head of the authority and is elected by the Riksdag. The Riksdag also elects the Deputy Auditor General and each year decides how much money the Swedish National Audit Office may use.
The Swedish National Audit Office is headed by Auditor General
Christina Gellerbrant Hagberg. The Riksdag appoints the Auditor General for a seven-year term. The Auditor General decides what is to be audited, how the audits are to be conducted and the conclusions and recommendations that can be drawn from them. The independence of the Auditor General is protected under the Constitution.
